Australia regains Fed Cup lead

Australia has taken a 2-1 lead in the Fed Cup tie against Ukraine in Melbourne.

World number 30 Jarmila Groth continued her impressive form with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Lesia Tsurenko to give Australia the edge on the final day.

It was Groth's second effortless victory in the tie - on Saturday she gave Australia a bright start when she quickly disposed of Olga Savchuk.

And it was much of the same on Sunday, her straight sets win putting Australia ahead after the tie was levelled on the opening day when team-mate Anastasia Rodionova lost in an upset by Tsurenko.

Groth was in devastating form on clay at the Glen Iris tennis club, breaking Tsurenko's serve early in both sets to seal the win in under an hour.

Anastasia Rodionova will try to wrap up the tie when she meets Olga Savchuk in the second reverse singles.

The winner of the play-off tie remains in the elite eight-nation World Group.
